Azura

azura sun and safari travel

Azura offers two exquisite islands to choose from for an unforgettable holiday: Benguerra and Quilalea.

Azura Benguerra Island

Azura Benguerra Island was hand built by the local community, and blends designer modern chic with all that is traditional in Mozambique, including local wooden beams and thatched jekka roofs. Just 20 villas are nestled along one of the last undiscovered stretches of beach in the world, with all the creature comforts you could wish for, sparkling private pools, Mozambican Butler-hosts to look after your every need, fish and seafood fresh from the ocean, a fantastic range of activities and experiences, an African spa to relax in, all at a community based project where the local islanders benefit as much as you. Benguerra Island is the second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, which is made up of five islands:

Bazaruto, Benguerra, Magaruque, Banque (or Shell Island), and Santa Carolina (or Paradise Island). Santa Carolina is the only true volcanic island, whereas the others are sand based. Benguerra Island is approximately 11km x 5.5 km and lies some 14 km north east of Vilanculos. It is famous for its unspoiled white beaches, remarkable dive sites and excellent fishing. Benguerra Island has about 2000 inhabitants and there are 440 children in the school which was built by Azura’s Rainbow Fund Charity.

  • Ocean paradise with pristine marine life in a National Park

  • Recommended length of stay is 5 nights, preferably more

Azura Quilalea Private Island:

Azura Quilalea Private Island is a hidden gem, somewhere to retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life, with a relaxed and understated ‘Robinson Crusoe’ castaway style that belies the comforts and experiences on offer. Attention to detail, as ever with Azura, is paramount in the design, the finishes, and the overall wow factor of the island experience. Quilalea Island is one of the Southernmost islands in the pristine Quirimbas Archipelago, 30 nautical miles North of Pemba. It has one of only a few safe deep-water moorings in the area, where the Portuguese and Arab traders traditionally found sanctuary for their dhows. Along with its sister island Sencar, it is one of the few properties in the entire Archipelago to lie within a fully protected marine reserve, ensuring an abundance of marine life. The island is approximately 86 acres (35 hectares) in size and apart from Quilalea staff & guests, it is completely uninhabited. The island is covered in indigenous vegetation, with statuesque age-old baobab groves and stunning flora and fauna, a real nature lowers paradise.

Summary:

  • Snorkelling and diving right off the main beach on the house reef
  • Marine paradise with 17 dive sites around Quilalea Island
  • Personalised itineraries with activities scheduled to guests wishes
  • Dining in different locations each day, beach dining and dining under baobab trees
  • Azura’s signature trademark offers you a Mozambican butler-host to look after you during your stay
